About

Allow me to introduce myself
and something of my journey...

Where leadership began...

I grew up in a Christian home, always believing in Jesus. But at 17, everything changed. I moved from spectating faith to participating faith when I became a youth leader in a brand-new outreach to 11–14-year-olds. Suddenly, I realised how desperately I needed God – and His Word and Spirit – to truly be good news for these young people. That lit a fire in me that’s never gone out. I’ve been cheering on the rising generation ever since.

That was also the moment I began to fan into flame my leadership, learning how to turn God-given dreams into reality.

Twenties in telephony...

In my 20s, I thought my future was set in the commercial world. I spent 10 years as an IT Manager in the mobile phone industry, leading big teams, multi-million-pound budgets and projects.

I figured that was where I’d live out my calling – Kingdom influence in the workplace.

And honestly, it was an incredible training ground for leadership - particularly when it came to managing conflict and difficult conversations (being an IT leader was pretty unforgiving at times!!!).

Into the charitable world...

Then came the curveball. October 1999. A job advert for CEO of Crusaders (now Urban Saints). I was 29, no history with the organisation, Pentecostal background (although I'm not a fan of labels), and the role meant a 70% pay cut. No way, right? But God had other ideas.

Against all odds, I got the job in May 2000.
The movement was 94 years old, and the 18 years that followed were a wild ride of change and reinvention, with an incredible team of people.

Honestly, it was amazing and tough in equal measure. LOADS of change - LOADS of resistance (100s of letters of complaint!). But in January 2007, we emerged with the same call but a fresh vision, a new way of working, and a new name – Urban Saints.

I never wanted to lead a church, but...

Meanwhile, in 2003, I had a prophetic moment at a crossroads in St Albans. God told me I’d one day lead the church my dad planted in our home back in 1981.

Honestly, I NEVER wanted to be a pastor (growing up a pastor’s kid will do that to you). But the word stuck. Fast forward to 2012 – after 31 years, Dad stepped down, and I stepped in as Senior Pastor.

For six years, I juggled being CEO of Urban Saints and Senior Pastor of our church, until in 2018 I went full-time with the church. We renamed it Zeo Church – “Zeo” is Greek for passion/zeal (Romans 12:11).

My Dad often warned me about the unique joy and pain of leading a church. He was right. The highs are breathtaking, but the lows can be crushing — especially when much-loved friends move on, whether for good or for ill.

Passionate about loving leaders...

In recent years, I’ve stepped back to part-time at Zeo Church to create more space for my deepest passion — cheering on leaders in every sphere of life and leadership.

Together with my amazing wife, Amy, we count it a privilege to invest in leaders through training, retreats, coaching, and spiritual direction — creating sacred spaces where leaders can be renewed, re-envisioned, and released to lead with courage and joy.

Reboot Your Leadership was born out of it all — the highs, the lows, and everything in between — to encourage, strengthen, and fire you up for the road ahead

And keeping it real...

On the personal front – life hasn’t been easy. Like all of us right?

After nearly 30 years together, my first marriage ended in divorce. 2012–2016 was the most painful season of my life — yet even there, God’s grace met me, reshaping my heart, deepening empathy, bringing healing, and restoring hope.

I’m deeply thankful that my ex-wife and I remain friends, and our two amazing sons, Andy and Dan, continue to be the joy of my life. Plus, I have an amazing daughter-in-law, Alice, who is married to Andy.

Then in February 2020 (just before lockdown!), I married Amy. Redemption. Joy. A brand-new chapter.

Together, we're passionate about helping people become better followers of Jesus and leaders of people.

ps - Give me Belgian Chocolate Häagen-Dazs, a meaty pizza, and a great film, and I’m happy!
